ATV Riding Safety

All terrain vehicles can be used for work or for play. It can be a lot of fun to hop onto an ATV and go for an exciting ride on the trails. However, since they don't have restraints, they can also be quite dangerous. Before heading out, you should make sure you're properly prepared for the ride. Rotorhead Lubes in Savannah has some tips to help keep you safe on your ATV.

Follow the Laws

Before you hop on an ATV, make sure you know the specific riding laws in your state. These laws will inform you about age requirements, safety certifications, carrying passengers and many other things. While you're riding, you should always follow the speed limit and stay on trails meant for ATVs. Even if it's not required, taking a safety certification course is a good idea if you're new to riding ATVs.

Wear Appropriate Attire

Riding an ATV can leave you exposed to dangerous situations even if you're careful. In order to prevent bodily harm in dangerous situations, make sure your wear the right attire. You should always wear a helmet with a face shield to protect your eyes. If your helmet doesn't have a face shield, invest in some goggles. Make sure you wear long pants and over the ankle the boots. Wear long sleeves to protect yourself from potential road rash and gloves to protect your hands.

Be Prepared

Even if you're being safe, accidents can still occur. Make sure you're properly prepared for emergency situations. Learn basic first aid procedures just in case someone gets hurt. You and the people you're riding with should all know how to get help in case of an emergency.
