Avoid Distractions as You Drive

Getting distracted while on the road is a common issue but that doesn't mean it should turn into a habit. Distracted driving is dangerous and can put you, your passengers and other people in risky situations. To avoid the dangers of distracted driving, ;Rotorhead Lubes in Brunswick ;have some tips to keep you focused on the road.

Keep Your Eyes on the Road

Visual distractions include checking on your children, looking at electronic devices like your GPS or being distracted by a DVD or another source of entertainment in your vehicle. To avoid these issues, secure your children and provide them with snacks and entertainment before leaving. Give your children headsets for their DVD's so you won't get distracted and can focus on the road. Put mobile devices on silent and out of reach so you won't be tempted to look at them. Remember to set your GPS before you leave in order to avoid having it distract you.

Keep Your Hands on the Steering Wheel

Manual distractions are quite common, especially if you're in a rush to get out of your house. These distractions include eating, drinking, looking through your purse or briefcase, personal grooming and texting or emailing. To avoid removing your hands from the steering wheel try your best to be fully ready to go before hitting the road. Make enough time to eat at home and finish getting ready before getting in the car. Turn your phone off or put it on silent and out of reach so you're not tempted to check it. ;If you know you will need an item while on the road, take it out of your purse or briefcase and leave it within reach.

Keep Your Mind on the Road

Cognitive distractions take your mind elsewhere and cause you to lose focus on the road in front of you. The types of distractions can include conversing with people in your car, thinking about work or being distracted by a sound in vehicle's engine. If you're having a heated conversation with someone, take a breather and put your focus back on the road. Strange noises coming from your engine and lit up icons on your dashboard should be taken care of as soon as you notice them in order to avoid issues in your car and distractions on the road. Once you take care of the issue you'll be free to focus on the road.
